How to Choose the Right Abaya Fabric: Nida, Crepe, Jersey & More

Fabric is the soul of an abaya. The same cut can feel luxurious or cheap depending on the material.
Nida is the classic choice for Gulf markets: matte, fluid and opaque. It drapes beautifully and resists wrinkles — ideal for daily abayas and formal pieces alike.
Crepe (especially stone-washed crepe) offers a slightly textured surface with excellent breathability. It is popular in North Africa and for summer collections.
Jersey stretches and follows the body. Great for casual, travel-friendly abayas, though it requires heavier weight (260 gsm+) to remain modest.
Linen blends are the rising star for resort and summer lines: breathable, textured, and they photograph beautifully for e-commerce.
For wholesale buyers: always ask for the gsm (grams per square meter). Nida typically runs 180-240 gsm. Request swatches before bulk production — a reliable factory will send them free of charge.
